NICE...... The Black-and-crimson Pitta is so far still only found in Malaysia (Sabah), so not only Bornean endemic, also Malaysian endemic.....

Pitta King strikes hard again ! Why I never have luck with this specie is because I do not have the courage and determination like Weefar, for a start. Well, you can only consider me as the MaTaChiau ( sparrow) king, I can shoot them everyday day in my garden !

Re: Black head & red cap.
Adrian, i started targeted from most difficult Giant Pitta, end up with many species of pitta. finding them need experience, species knowledge, detailed site, collect field skills and most important need to donate blood to forest & lots of luck.wmw998 wrote: Why I never have luck with this specie is because I do not have the courage and determination like Weefar,

Really? That is actually very very highly possible, it is a very weak endemic species, we would see.
Some species had lost endemic status over the years when they appeared later in the relatively poorly studied Kalimantan side, for example:
Black Oriole (endemic to Sarawak before popping up in Kalimantan (1 locality)
Dulit Frogmouth (used to be listed as Sarawak endemic as well but now also recorded in Kalimantan, very likely to be recorded in Sabah after some time...)
White-crowed Shama (used to be a Sabah endemic, now also in Kalimantan, especially there is another subspecies on Maratuas island)
White-fronted Falconet (this previous Sabah endemic popped up in Brunei ones, it is also said to be seen in the eastern borders of Sarawak)
Currently only some left to be endemic to Malaysia:
Black-headed Pitta yet to have confirmed records from Kalimantan (probably no valid sightings published and updated yet, but very very weak endemic).
Dulit Partridge is so far historically recorded from Dulit range and Kinabalu range, due to its extreme rarity, may also be rather weak endemic as it may easily popped up in any other hills over Kalimantan there were poorly studied.
Bornean Swiftlet, a new split from Cave Swiftlet, so far only collected from KK range and recently also Sabah-Sarawak border, extremely few info on this species, appears to be a very weak endemic as there were also suspected records in Kalimantan.
Everett's thrush and Bare-headed Laughingthrush (new split) currently still found over a narrow montane zone from Sabah to Sarawak, may pop up in Kalimantan in the future when more attention were given.
The Friendly Warbler on a few hills at KK range is most likely the safe endemic species due to the altitudes it survives at.
In Peninsular Malaysia, the previous Mountain Peacock Pheasant and Malaysian Partridges are both found in the Hala-bala area of south Thailand, so leaving only Malayan Whistling Thrush as an endemic to political Peninsular Malaysia.
Our country is lying on a barely isolated zone and therefore despite a rather good collection of bird species, we only have very few endemics, a condition that is similar to Thailand, that also lacks the isolation boundaries and had very little endemics.
