where you got this???? Watercock sudah balik?? This is a non-breeding male perhaps? But there are residents in the extreme north of the Peninsular such as Perlis and Kedah, where you got this??

i got this at seberang perak paddyfield yesterday, my friend also got this on tuesday... a week ago, my friend confirmed got a watercock at seberang perak paddyfield also, with black-grey plumage... maybe it is the immature watercock ??jytou wrote:where you got this???? black grey is male, now probably moulting into brown like this, in winter, the males, females, juveniles all looked like this brownish, but differ by size and barring densities and some other minor features. Those in Seberang Perai could be either resident or migrant as well. Congrats on the find, i will try monitor my garden oso to see if they already arrive....

I would say by the lack of primary projection beyond the tertials/secondaries, and also from what looks like down on the tips of the tail feathers and washed out bare part colours that this is a young juvenile, and therefore proof of local breeding.
