I was told one way to help dampen vibration is to place a hand on top to the lens when shooting as this will help reduce vibration in the lens. Just out of curiosity would placing an appropriate size bean/sand bag on top will get better results? (besides looking funny! Laughing).

Both also very subjective way.... but bean bag will become the weigh issue, don't think is good idea for bring around, place a hand on top... seem like is most of people way... me also but it only when the speed is allow and faster subject.

Anyway important is lock the Lens collar and head lock.... also the tripod must be good enough and don't put too high
