What is true macrophotography?
just an old write-up by me. hope can help those are interested.

nice write-up Jeffery.
the simplest way to know whether you can get true life size of 1:1, snap a ruler. then you can calculate how many 'millimeters' captured across the frame.
OK, this is the sample. taken with my AFS 300mm f/4 on stacked with extension tube onto Nikon D90 at the closest focusing distance less than 1m.

so, roughly it has 29mm over there.
D90 image sensor is 23.6 x 15.8 mm.
then 29 divided by 23.6 is 1.22. so I got almost 1:1 magnification here.
