sincere.. i shoot egret... all over exposed one... ha ha, i expose badly... that's why i hate white bird... except paradise flycatcher...

Use spot metering, get a reading on your white then plus 2 stops (meaning adjust it for 2stops, whether in ISO, SS or Aperture) The 2 stops should push your white to the far right in the histogram, check it and adjust according it.
Think about it, white is white, once you shoot in manual mode, push it to the right, that is where whites suppose to be...
Ok, hope I am not confusing all of you. LOL.

i seldom shoot white bird in open sunlight... now..
the last time is many year ago...only remember i do set to manual expose....the rest one forgot ... ha ha!

for my setup looking at the histogram doesn't always works unless the bird is big enough to fill up 2/3 of my sensor. Sigh!
the hot-spot sometime are just a little bigger than my AF indicator so the burn out control are different.

You control in white is not bad already.
But some time if in afternoon..... we have just to let it be... else will be coffee time... until nice light coming..
