Barn Owl's Feathers
Another sad day but another opportunity to study the mechanics of avian flight.
The materials collected for these shots was from a roadkill, 1 of many in the areas surrounding KLIA.
No further harm could be done to the donor...

2. The basic aerofoil shape of the primary feather.

3. Have you wondered, why the owls can fly without making and sound? One of the reasons is, they have built in mufflers in the form of tiny feathers at both the leading and training edges of their flight feathers.
The other factors are they have very soft feathers all over. These feathers are softer than the duck down.

4. Nape feathers.

5. Breast & belly feathers.

I only keep the photos.
Is it illegal to keep feathers of protected birds?
After all, it can be considered as animal parts...
