Mudskippers
Not many birds on that cloudy day.
So I decided to squat by the drain and this is what I got.
Anyone out there able to give me it ID .
And I don't mean telling me it's a mudskipper... I already know that much .

anyway! nice shot of the skipper.
These are old posting lah bro.
Not birding in the past 2 weeks now.
Re: Mudskippers
Chong, #1 might actually be a different species, as the eye pupil is totally different.
Here are a couple I took at Kek Lok Si mangrove in Manjung :

These 2 fighters are the same as the blue spotted one you took.

This is a larger species, didn't really bother to find out what it was

Re: Mudskippers
Deepend,
You might be right. Thanks for pointing it out.
So, you are an 'expired' Divemaster.
Any shots from the 'deep end'?
I am also a diver and hopefully will be able to do U/W photographs too.

Re: Mudskippers
chong, I came back into photography last year after stopping for many years, and use a Lumix TZ10 with the Panasonic UW casing (can't afford the DSLR housings LOL) .. took some shots last year but nothing fantastic. Search for Roger Yeoh and go to my photos section for Redang, August 2011.
Going again this weekend, and will see if I can get in some island birds
UW photography is significantly cheaper than bird photogr. cos you mostly do macro or wideangle only. No cannons to buy

Will drop by your site for a look see.
U/W photography is not at all that cheap.
Ya, you don't need cannons but you need to buy the tank and its light
Worst if you intend to use a DSLR...
Re: Mudskippers
Well, let's put it this way .. get a FF DSLR, nice aluminium alloy housing, strobe arm with twin strobes, macro lens, macro lens port, and it'll still be less than a single long cannon
But for all other purposes, a compact is fine for regular macro shots unless you want to post it to NatGeog !

I think we can get good photos too with a PnS.
Just need a bit of extra planning.
By the way, TI is also my kampung.
Re: Mudskippers
Oh really! Incredible, but then I'm actually from Ipoh and working in TI Gimme a buzz next time you're back in town
You can definitely get good pix with a PnS, and normally we try to get real close to the subject without using the zoom function .. less pixellation this way

Re: Mudskippers
Wow! You guys really got some close ups of the mudskippers. I would be grateful if you can let me know the exact location to photograph this beautiful fish. I am from Ipoh. Thanks.
Re: Mudskippers
Ng, You can shoot these guys at most mudflats in the mangrove swamps by the coast. Mine were taken at Tua Pek Kong Temple, Seri Manjung, near Sitiawan : 4.163235,100.68856 : [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
There's a boardwalk from the Taman Monyet in there that leads to the mudflats
