Blue-Eared Kingfisher (Binti-Binti)
Was only a pair left there. There were four of them before. And not so tame anymore, very hard to get close not like before you can easily approach them. No wonder why... so much human activities done here during late afternoon. While I was there 3 people was fish netting along the stream, another 4-5 fellows fishing from the bank, and all of them are foreign workers from a nearby construction side...

Sounds more like the bird in Melawati ! I still have not been able to nail a good shot, so the hunt is still on.
Lovely images !

You are right... But sometimes during feeding time, when they locate an area with the prey (small fish) they will keep busy diving, there is a chance they will ignore you Thx Mr NG.

Not actually, I had quite a number of close encounter with this fella....... just few meters away, I remember during my liferic sighting, we have to back off a few steps to ensure it focuses on the binocular and the camera can get full frame of the bird....... Maybe those in Perak is more friendly gua?? Although the ones at my garden in Ipoh is quite shy, I usually only get to hear their calls then gone......

PnS King havent meet this, go around mining land in Kinta Valley one day, you should be able to meet one once a while, try to look for some perch that may be low over water where they can look at fishes well, it is not rare in Kinta Valley at all!!! My first one was in Ipoh, and it was initially some distance away but suddenly flew towards us and perched just like 1-2 meter from us, I dont have camera back then......
At my uni, I can see them once a while, sometimes only heard, is quite hard to spot it when it is inside the foliage, best sit and wait until it fly through water surfaces. You must try shoot this some day, very very awesome bird to shoot....... I still need to improve my wild shot (although I did MACRO with one in hand....)

Agreed... They always perch on low branches with heavy foliage. Very hard to see one. But listen to its call, it is typically a simple high-pitched squeak, often given in flight. They will always change their hideout and will fly from one place to another.

I have been to Melawati to look for them before... not an easy place to shoot them. The best strategy is to find they favourite perch and then sit there quietly to wait for it to appear.
