Black-capped Kingfisher
Finally manage to get 1 sitting long enough and close enough for me to shot.
These are taken from Batu Kawan, Penang. Unfortunately, I did not see the oriental darters .

First year I met this fellow, it stayed no closer than 50m away.
This time, it allowed me to get as close as 10m.
Maybe it's gotten used to cars with barrels poking out of windows.
Tou, you can try this location.
You can drive there, park you car by the side and wait for it.
Don't even have to get down from the car.
Re: Black-capped Kingfisher

sob sob..... my wings are round and short (galliform) so cannot travel to far away from my natural habitat and had became a very restricted range species, this species is not rare, just rarely noticed or found..... it is recorded for many times at my place, someone even show me photo of 1 in my garden, but I haven't manage to spot it ever since....... the closest is I think I saw one on the roadside wyreline when we drove pass......... I must be able to find this guy here one day, I even found the Black-backed Kingfisher in my garden ready, how can this commoner Black-capped cannot find?? (I love the excitement to be able to find them at my home...... I am far more happy when I saw a House Crow in my neighborhood few years ago despite I had seen so many when I stayed in PJ....)

When you mentioned 'Galliform', the thing that jump to my mind was gallus gallus's wings mah.
So trying to imagine you as a red junglefowl

haha..... you use "red junglefowl" still ok.... but when you say "chicken", it sounds odd redi..... you know "chicken" got more than one meaning rite? especially when applying on human..... E.g. I never knew you were such a chicken........
Galliform order such a big order, I would prefer to be other more interesting species, I would love to be like Malaysian Peacock Pheasant, Blue-breasted Quail also ok...... there are many other global galliform that could be interesting looking also....... Coincidentally, galliform memang one of my favorite group of birds......
