Raptor ID yet again. Empty Raptor ID yet again.

Found this one this morning perched on a coconut tree.
I think I did see a somewhat pointed wing tip just before it landed here. but I could be wrong.
Sorry there is no frontal photo. Just this one and others which are all but similar.
Location: NE Thailand, rural farmland.
My guess would be grey-faced buzzard probably juvenile.
Over to you Mr.Tou and all the sifus here. Thank you.

the brow did suggest juvenile Grey-faced Buzzard, along with visible equal space bars on the tail, and frontal shots? Nice.....

Hmmmm...I have conflicting IDs for this one...some say it's a Shikra.
Raptors are really tough to ID.

erm, as you brought this up, yup, Shikra is much commoner up north, it is quite possible as well, thats why front shot is quite helpful to ID this, but the head did seemed to be a bit too small for the Grey-faced Buzzard, told from the size of the eyes over the head, in fact, could had been a juvenile Shikra?

I had a look in the OBC database and I think it is more shikra then GFB but then I am not sure. The GFB appears to have primaries which extend beyond its tail when perched. If this is a fact it immediately rules out GFB. What do you think?

Very good point!!! Wink Grey-faced Buzzard do have very long narrow wings, I forgotten that you can check it through this method without it in flight, and yup, guess you had a juvenile Shikra...... Very Happy
