Black Thighed Falconet

This is nice. On my bird wanted list.

This fella looks like a black-thighed.
Where was it shot?

That's it, can see the black thigh clearly.
Collared do not have black thighs.

it got chestnut throat.. should be correct collered falconet.. if black-thighed falconet got whiter throat....

ya, Malaysian memang no records of Collared, the Collared should have a different looking face, unfortunately most of the chick to sub-adult intermediate stages are not clearly illustrated in many guides, hence you are not the first to "id" a collared falconet from the Malay Peninsular. The young BTF have rufous over the white areas of the head, which will be faded off according to age.

I think the give-away would be the black coloured thigh, which the collared don't have.

true, that is in fact a better details, I forgotten but I think White-fronted is the only other falconet that shares the black thigh, the other northern SEA species all have different thigh colors....... but facial wise, they really looked quite different, Black-thighed have more black on face band, adult Collared looks more whitish.
