at least bee-eaters are reasonably closely related to kingfishers..... not so bad la.... not like looking a duck and call it parrot ma...... Once a local tell me there are a lot of "penguins" (in Cantonese) around the neighborhood and he is referring to the Little Egrets.......

The yellow-vented bulbul is more than common, you almost have to be blind and deaf to not notice its appearance, once there were some vegetation, these fellas came in, arguably one of the commonest bird in Malaysia.....

That's what the regular birders will find in their garden daily, rarities dont always pops up, or else we dont call it "rare".... But there are a good 20-30 species of common birds that you should be able to practice in your garden, being common doesn't always mean easy!! Try the Black-naped Oriole, common but sensitive fellas......

I remembered years ago a beginner claimed that he saw so many Hornbills at the Sg. Besi Airport, but actually they were house crows. Today he is so expert that he is now a sifu to so many new & old birders

I called Yellow-vented Bulbuls (jay-liked birds) and Flowerpecker (Tit-liked Birds), I believed Pied Fantail is a type of Laughingthrush, I greatly confused the swifts and swallows group where I scrapped all my old records of it and start over again sometime later, I only represented bee-eaters and shrikes by a drawing, I did started with thinking Magpie Robins are Magpies and etc....... its very common to everyone during the learning process....... but we will learn from our mistakes and we will grow stronger.
