Just a record shot
Captured this hornbill while I was on the way to my brother's house in Felda Selancar 3, Segamat, Johor. Saw it perched low on the signboard by the roadside within Felda housing area. Firstly, I was thinking that was a statue, but once I saw the 'statue' moves a bit, uiyoo quickly I took out my camera, attach a TC and got 4 frames of it in burst mode before it fly away to far away trees. There is 3 of them...
So, I think this is an Oriental Pied Hornbill, is it? My lifer for this week...
Taken with D90 + AFS 300mm f/4 ED-IF + TC-17EII, iso 200, f/6.7, 1/200s handheld

Re: Just a record shot
Nelson, I went there for wedding ceremony. then need to bring camera lahh.. but once seeing the Official Photographer is using D3 and 24-70, then I keep my camera away la.. hahaha..
like last time when I was gila pancing, going anywhere oso bring pancing.. hahaha
Nelson, the place got owl. very white color but I dunno the name or what owl (maybe barn owl). saw it flying across the road and landed on the high ground by the roadside. too bad I cannot stop because by the time, we're traveling to Pontian oledi to female bride house... but I believe they're plenty there since the Felda made many 'house' for the owl across the oil palm plantation (natural way to get rid rats that ruining oil palm fruits)

depends on size, Barn Owl is the only whitish species, but a few big owls are white during juvenile stage as well, for example Barred Eagle Owl is quite white in color!

Re: Just a record shot
that Owl is big in size if I was not mistaken, almost the same like the one I saw in my garden. I saw the fella perching on lamp post around 10 meters away from my balcony. My first impression looking at the size, OMG, so big.
The fella was so unfortunate. it tries to catch a rat that hangs around near a drain and overshoot into the longkang. the bugger takes some time to get out from the drain by itself due to it's own size.. too bad I was not engage in birding by the time...

Re: Just a record shot
record shot because it perched on man-made structure not on natural perch. secondly the image quality not very good. exposure, focusing, color and contrast is off due to camera shakes and foggy condition.. haha
